Thomas W. Ptack
August 1, 1957 – April 9, 2026 (Age 68)
Thomas W. “Tom” Ptack, 68, a lifelong resident of Carpentersville, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Born on August 1, 1957, in Chicago, Tom was the beloved son of the late William R. and Patricia M. (née Walter) Ptack. He was raised in Carpentersville and remained deeply connected to the community throughout his life. Tom was a proud graduate of Irving Crown High School, Class of 1975.
Shortly after graduation, Tom answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard. Following his military service, he built a long and respected career as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local #150. For over 20 years, he was a dedicated and valued member of the team at Hummel Construction, where his strong work ethic and reliability earned him the respect of coworkers and friends alike.
On July 30, 1994, Tom married the love of his life, Christine L. Linstad. Together, they built a life centered on love, hard work, and family. Tom was a devoted husband and a proud father to his children: Tom (Tara) Ptack, Travis Ptack, and Tiffany (Kilian Vasica) Ptack. Nothing brought him greater joy than being “Grandpa” to William, Carbon, Wrenn, and Oliver. He cherished each of them deeply and took immense pride in watching them grow.
Tom will be remembered for his steady presence, his quiet strength, and his unwavering dedication to those he loved. He found happiness in the simple things—time spent with family, sharing stories, and lending a helping hand whenever it was needed.
He is also lovingly survived by his brother, Michael (Linda) Ptack; his sister, Catherine (Daniel) Damptz; his mother-in-law, Bernice Linstad; his sister-in-law, Michelle (Tracy) Wallace; his brother-in-law, Richard Linstad; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith, and his father-in-law, Richard Linstad.
In accordance with Tom’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
