Patricia M. “Pat” Ptack (née Walter), age 92, a longtime resident of Heritage Woods in Belvidere and formerly of Marengo and Carpentersville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Rockford.
Pat was born on February 22, 1933, in Chicago, the beloved daughter of the late Austin and Beatrice Walter. On October 2, 1954, she married the love of her life, William R. “Bill” Ptack. Together they shared 53 devoted years of marriage until Bill’s passing on February 1, 2008, a partnership marked by deep love, hard work, and unwavering commitment to family.
Pat and Bill were among the original residents of Meadowdale and faithful members of St. Monica Catholic Church in Carpentersville. They worked tirelessly to create a warm, welcoming home where love, laughter, and strong values were always present. Before entering the workforce, Pat lovingly devoted herself to raising her children as a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. Later, she enjoyed a diverse and people-centered career, working in sales and customer service at Meadowdale Shopping Center and Wintergarden Pharmacy, and eventually as a travel agent with Sunshine Travel in Carpentersville. No matter her role, Pat’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was always her family.
Deeply rooted in their community, Pat and Bill were active and generous supporters of many local organizations. They were longtime supporters of the Irving Crown High School Imperials Marching Band Booster Club and founding members of the Carpentersville Little League. Pat’s enthusiasm extended to the world of sports as well—she was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, cheering them on with passion and loyalty.
Pat leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Michael (Linda) Ptack, Thomas (Tina) Ptack, and Catherine (Daniel) Damptz; her nine cherished grandchildren; and her 15 treasured great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gloria Walter, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom will miss her kind heart and gentle presence.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Pat was preceded in death by her brother, John “Jack” Walter, and a great-grandson.
Interment at River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee.
