Frances W. Shaver

Frances W. Shaver of Carpentersville, age 73, passed away April 20, 2002.
Born March 28, 1929, in Cherry Valley, Ark., the daughter of Walter and Ida (nee Green) Stark, she died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, surrounded by her loving family. Interment was held at Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery, West Memphis, Ark.
Mrs. Shaver was valedictorian of the Cherry Valley High School Class of 1946. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and her master’s degree in special education from Arkansas State University. She was an educator in School District #300 for 23 years and retired from Parkview Elementary School in Carpentersville in 1993. Following retirement, she continued to do substitute teaching for the district until her death.
A many-year resident of Carpentersville, Frances was a longtime and very active member of First Congregational Church of Carpentersville and, at the time of her death, was serving as congregational president as well as chairperson of the memorial committee. She was also a member of AARP. A master teacher, Frances had a deep love and respect for children. She also loved to travel and spend time with, and cook for, her family.
Surviving are her children, Gary Shaver of Carpentersville, Carolyn (John) Oates of Cary and Bart Shaver (fiancée, Kim Polly) of Geneva; grandchildren, Todd and Brian (Vicki) Shaver, both of Lake in the Hills, and Jayna and Koriann Oakes, both of Cary; great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Rachel and Mark Andrew Shaver, all of Lake in the Hills; brothers Bill (Marilyn) Stark of Lake in the Hills and Keith (Jean) Stark of East Dundee; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence V. Shaver, in 1975; and brothers Loy Stark, in 1977, and Bob Stark, in 2000.
Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church in Carpentersville or to the Carpentersville Paramedics.
