Beverly Jean Elliott (Tyson) of Union, MO, formerly of Lady Lake, FL and Algonquin, IL passed away on April 26, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born on February 8, 1934, in Elgin, IL to Glenn and Gladys Tyson. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1951 where she had met the love of her life, George. She married George Earl Elliott on April 19, 1952, in Elgin, Illinois.
In high school, Bev was part of the student-led team that started the Elgin High School radio station. Upon graduation, she was offered a full scholarship in Journalism, but instead, married her high school sweetheart, George, who had just returned home from the University of Colorado, Boulder to work in the family business following his father’s illness. They raised their
four children in Elgin, IL before moving to Algonquin, IL in late 1967 when they purchased the Algonquin Bakery from George’s parents, Ernest and Rena Elliott. While still working at the bakery, George and Beverly became members of the first, all volunteer, ambulance crew for the Algonquin/LITH Fire Protection District, first becoming EMTs and then paramedics. As owners of the bakery, they worked closely with the service organizations in Algonquin. The Algonquin Jaycees honored George and Beverly as Algonquinites of the year for their service. After selling the bakery in 1988, Bev worked at the Algonquin Pharmacy becoming a Pharmacist Assistant and then joined George as a CUSD 300 bus driver, freeing up time to pursue their new passion for golf together.
While in Elgin, Bev and George were members of the St. Paul’s s United Church of Christ where they were also members of the couples’ group, The Pacers. Bev served as the Director of the Elementary Sunday School and Church Diaconate until they moved to Algonquin. They were
active in the neighborhood Pinnacle Club and shared the love of card games including Pinnacle, Hearts, Spades, Poker, Blackjack and Tripoley with their children and grandchildren. Bev also volunteered as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader including Brownies and Juniors. She was the cheerleading coach for George’s Elgin Pee Wee Panthers football team. She loved to sing, and the family road trips were always filled with camp songs. After retirement in Florida, they purchased an organ. She taught herself to play and learned to play her favorite hymns. She loved reading and singing songs to her grandchildren. The staff at Victorian Place Assisted Living in Union, MO were greeted in the morning with “Good Morning, Good Morning”.
In Algonquin, they were members of The Congregational Church of Algonquin where she served on the church board. Her favorite services were the holidays and the Dixieland Services. Bev was also a member of the Algonquin Women’s Club, Crown High School Booster Club and was the charter president of the adult club of AFS at Irving Crown High School.
In retirement, they moved to The Villages in Lady Lake, FL. They golfed several times a week with neighbors and on leagues, they enjoyed their neighborhood, the pools, the clubs and dancing. They traveled with their neighbors and friends and enjoyed retirement. In The Villages, they built a special relationship with their son-in-law’s cousin and his wife, Michael and Catherine Anne Turley who planned an adventure every month and kept them young. Bev and George made pizza and watched Lawrence Welk every Saturday night and when able, they always danced to the last song. “A one and a two and a three.”
Bev is survived by her son Michael (Lynne) and daughters, Terri Dawson (James) and Cathy Terry Hoppe (Steve); grandchildren Lindsay Traffas (Greg), Courtney Elliott (Jack Munier), Scott Elliott (Heather), Tom Dawson (Elizabeth), Tiffany Poletti (Jonathan), Kanen Terry (Sarah) and Megan Rocha (Ricardo), her niece Donna Schuring Redmer, her sisters Donna Schaeffer (Tyson) and JoAnn Marshall (Tyson); and great grandchildren; Brooklyn Grafrath, Hunter Grafrath, Skylar Traffas, Clark Munier, Elliott Munier, Trenton Munier, Tyson Munier, Amanda Skornia (Matthew), Connor Elliott, Kayleigh Elliott, Dexter Dawson, Natalia Dawson, Brighton Poletti,
Bridget Poletti, Gavin Terry, Declan Terry, Camran Terry, Junji Rocha, Jacquin Rocha; great great grandchildren Noah Skornia and Abraham Skornia; and many nieces and nephews. Her pride was in her family. She was a loving and generous mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, her son, Robert Allen Elliott, her parents, Glenn and Gladys Tyson, her in-laws, Ernest and Rena Elliott, brothers Glenn and Lyle Tyson and their wives Beverly, Donna and Betty, brother in-laws Lee Schaeffer and Ralph Marshall, and two sister-in-laws and their husbands, Margaret Root (Elliott) and Gertrude Dirksen (Elliott).
