Elgin in the 60's and 70's

The next best thing to going shopping in Chicago was going shopping in Elgin

Here are some photos sure to bring back memories of that big city in the Carpentersville area.

In 1975 I lived in Elgin and worked at the Pizza Hut on N. Mclean Blvd. and one of the McDonalds
(I think there were two at the time, both owned by the Bear Corporation).

The Root Toot N Wistle near Villa Olivia, It was a real mini train that ran on a real track and went into the woods.
The Hoot Toot & Whistle was near Villa Olivia in the 60s.   It was a real mini train that ran on a real track and went into the woods.

(That little engine and train is now at the Riverside and Great Northern Railroad North of the Dells Operating
as engine number 98 In case anyone gets up that way. It would be a great nostalgia ride.
Thanks for the memories, Kirk H.)
